- Microsoft announces changes to the update release schedule for Windows 11 (and 10).
- Starting in April 2023, Windows will receive optional updates during the fourth week of the month.
- The new schedule replaces the C and D updates with the optional non-security preview release.
According to Microsoft’s revised development plan, previews of the upcoming Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11 (and 10) will now be released during the fourth week of the month.
Microsoft delivers updates on the second Tuesday of each month as part of the maintenance update process. Also known as Update Tuesday or Patch Tuesday. Because they are released in the second week of the month, these upgrades are internally referred to as the Brelease. These upgrades contain new features (if any) as well as security and non-security fixes.
The third and fourth weeks of the month also see the publication of the CandD updates in addition to the Brelease. The non-security changes included in these optional updates are anticipated to be included in the upcoming monthly release.
The firm intends to replace the CandD releases in April 2023 with a new release called an optional non-security preview release, which will only be made available for installation during the fourth week of the month.
The most recent supported versions, such as Windows 11 22H2 and Windows 10 22H2, will be impacted by this modification.
The firm claims that this new timetable should be the best time for consumers to install updates and for the company to publish. Two weeks have passed since the most recent monthly security update, and consumers will have to wait another two weeks for these enhancements to be included in the next necessary cumulative update.
The firm further states that this modification is intended to increase consistency, optimize payload validation, and improve the predictability of your testing, update, and upgrade experience.
