Google has been struggling to make BARD AI a competitive product since Microsoft launched Bing Chat AI. As a result, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was forced to publicly address critics and pledge fresh improvements to the chatbot.
Pichai stated that the company intends to update the AI chatbot to the more powerful PaLM models, which will allow Bard to access additional features in the upcoming weeks, in an interview with The New York Times’ Hard Fork podcast (via TheVerge).
The search engine behemoth first unveiled Bard with a lightweight AI model called Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), which limits the chatbot’s functionality compared to Bing Chat and ChatGPT. Bard will now be using the Pathways Language Model (PaLM), a much more powerful large-scale model that will unlock additional features to enhance math, reasoning, coding, and problem-solving skills.
As a precaution, the company claims that Bard left Google with limited skills. Additionally, Sundar Pichai mentioned that he discussed the idea with Sergey Brin and Larry Page, co-founders of Google. Other people expressed concern to him, even though he didn’t see any issues that might have an impact on the company’s main operations.
Additionally, the CEO of Google discussed worries on AI from the perspective that the technology is developing more quickly than anticipated and that society may not be prepared, given the numerous tech communities’ warnings about the possible problems with AI, such as abuse and the dissemination of false information.
