You can select a different background image for every desktop (previously known as a virtual desktop) with Windows 11. Although desktop backdrop customization has been around for a while, it was only available on the primary desktop or monitor, so if you changed the background on one desktop, it would affect all of your other computers.
Microsoft upgraded the functionality in the most recent version of Windows 11 to let you choose the backdrop on each desktop. Even though this is a little adjustment, it might help you immediately recognize each desktop in Task View and know where you are.
This tutorial will show you how to modify the Windows 11 virtual desktop wallpaper.
Change virtual desktop background on Windows 11
Use these procedures to change the background image for each desktop in Windows 11:
Use Windows 11 to open Task View.
To establish a new virtual desktop (if applicable), click the New desktop option.
To choose the background, right-click on the desktop and choose the option.
Click the Browse images option in the Personalize your backdrop section of the backdrop settings page.
To change the desktop backdrop, pick the picture.
Press the “Select Picture” button.
To update the wallpaper on the other PCs, repeat steps 4 and 5.
Each virtual desktop in Windows 11 will have a unique background image after you finish the instructions.
As an alternative, you can launch the preferences app on your desktop, select the Personalization preferences tab, and alter the wallpaper.
