Windows 11 is testing several enhancements for the Snap Layouts flyout (via@PhantomOfEarth) as part of some experimental changes. These include a title that will help the user understand the feature, a shorter hover time over the maximize button to improve discoverability, and an icon for the active window you will snap in the zone when you hover over the flyout.
ViveTool, a third-party tool developed by Rafael Rivera and Lucas on GitHub, can be used to activate the option on your computer if you want to get your hands dirty with the new UI improvements.
This tutorial will show you how to activate this new Windows 11 function.
Enable new changes for Snap Layouts on Windows 11
Follow these instructions to activate the latest Snap Layouts changes in Windows 11:
The website of OpenGitHub.
Get the ViveTool-vx.x.x.zip file to activate the latest Snap Layout enhancements.
To open the zip folder in File Explorer, double-click on it.
To extract all, click the button.
To extract, click the button.
Make a copy of the folder’s path.
LaunchStart.
Look up “Command Prompt,” then right-click on the first result and choose “Run as administrator.”
To access the ViveTool folder, type the following command and hit Enter:
Remember to update the path to the folder with your path in the command.
To enable the Snap this window title in the Snap Layouts flyout, use the following command and hit Enter:
To solely enable the flyout’s shortened hover time, use the following command and hit Enter:
As you select a snapping zone, type the following command to only activate the flyout title and app icon, then hit Enter:
To enable the flyout title, app icon, and shorter hover time for Snap Layouts, simply type the following command and hit Enter:
Restart the computer.
The new Snap Layouts flyout will open with the new adjustments, including time, shortened time on lingering, and the app icon, the next time you run an application and hover over the maximize button or drag a window to the top of the screen.
You can undo the changes using the same steps if you change your mind, but in step 10, be sure to use the vivetool /disable /id:40851068 command before restarting the computer.
