- OpenAI introduces plugin support for ChatGPT.
- The support allows the chatbot to expand its capabilities.
- One of these capabilities is access to interact with web data like Bing Chat.
The ChatGPT natural language model from OpenAI now supports plugins, which increases the chatbot’s functionality and allows it to connect with online data.
The ability of Bing Chat to integrate the capabilities of ChatGPT and the Bing search engine to offer answers on almost any subject, including current affairs, is one of the main ways that it differs from ChatGPT. Conversely, ChatGPT has been restricted to information from outdated predefined datasets. But thanks to plugins, this is now changing. By adding plugins, the chatbot may communicate with web data and make the system accessible to other services.
In the announcement, OpenAI demonstrated an example in which a user asked ChatGPT to locate a recipe after installing many plugins. The user then used the same interface to use the Instacart plugin (in this case) to generate a list of items to finish the online order.
Expedia, FscalNote, Instacart, Kayak, Klama Shopping, Milo Family AI, OpenTable, Shop, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier are among the few plugins that OpenAI currently offers. Nevertheless, as additional services express interest in ChatGPT, the list will keep expanding.
Along with these third-party plugins, OpenAI is also providing a few of its own, such as one for understanding code and another called Browsing, which allows the chatbot to browse web content, much like Bing Chat does. Additionally, it can connect to various APIs to carry out tasks on the user’s behalf, potentially enhancing ChatGPT’s functionality.
Even while this new capability can increase the AI system’s capabilities, security concerns remain because letting the chatbot act on the user’s behalf may have unintended consequences. OpenAI, however, claims to have taken this into account and has put in place certain protections.
Although OpenAI is presently testing the integration with a small number of users, plugin support is available right away. You will need to sign up for the waitlist if you would like early access.
