(Recorder of Georgia) Barry Paulk, a Cobb County voter, visited the West Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday afternoon to retrieve a copy of Tom Perrotta’s 1998 book Election.
A poll manager asked him whether he wanted to vote as soon as he entered the building and reminded him that there was an election for the Public Service Commission now taking place. He reasoned that since he was aware of the commission’s regulatory responsibilities and a recent legal dispute contesting the commissioner election process, why not?
I reasoned that since I was generally OK with the current situation, I may as well support the incumbents, Paulk remarked.
Paulk is among the few early voters who have already responded to the primary elections for two seats on the Public Service Commission. Voters are choosing representatives for both District 3 in metro Atlanta and District 2 in the eastern portion of the state for the first time since 2020. No matter where they reside, every Georgian who is a registered voter may cast a ballot for any commissioner.
In District 2, incumbent Commissioner Tim Echols is seeking reelection. On the Republican ticket, Lee Muns is his opponent. Alicia M. Johnson is an uncontested candidate on the Democratic ticket.
The sole Republican candidate on the ballot is incumbent Commissioner Fitz Johnson, who is seeking reelection in District 3. Four Democratic contenders are vying for the party’s candidacy at the moment. Among the contenders are Keisha Sean Waites, Robert Jones, and Peter Hubbard. The fourth candidate battling to overturn a disqualification based on residency is Daniel Blackman.
